National Highways Garden Makeover Winner
We were delighted to see our outdoor space at Felixstowe Opportunity Group transformed in just five days, thanks to an incredible team effort led by National Highways, alongside Eurovia Surfacing and a number of local businesses and volunteers.
Our outdoor area had become tired and was badly in need of some attention. As a community organisation supporting children, families and individuals in Felixstowe, having a safe, accessible and welcoming outdoor space is incredibly important to us.
A remarkable transformation
The project saw a huge amount of work completed in just five days, with our outdoor area receiving new turf and pathways, fresh fencing and improvements to our play and sensory areas.
The result is a safer, more accessible and much more inviting space for the children and families who use FOG. The project was identified through Eurovia Surfacing’s community engagement and social value work and was chosen as the National Highways East Big Social Value Project. Many of the materials were donated, while much of the work was carried out by volunteers.
FOG in the spotlight
The transformation also attracted the attention of BBC Look East, who visited Felixstowe Opportunity Group to see the work taking place and hear more about what the project means to our community. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase FOG and the important role our organisation plays in Felixstowe, as well as highlighting the incredible contribution made by everyone involved in the transformation.

We would like to say a huge thank you to National Highways, Eurovia Surfacing, the businesses who donated materials and everyone who gave their time and skills to the project. As a volunteer-run community organisation, support like this makes a huge difference. It allows us to continue providing safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for children, families and individuals across Felixstowe. Our newly transformed outdoor area will be enjoyed by children attending Little Foggies Playgroup, as well as families, community groups and other organisations who use our facilities. Most importantly, we now have a space that we can be proud of – somewhere children can play, explore, enjoy the outdoors and make memories together.
